Time's Fool by Patricia Veryan

Time’s Fool by Patricia is a Georgian Adventure/romance and the first of six books in the Tales of The Jewelled Men series. It is based in Sussex, England 1748. Gideon Rossiter returns from war after an injury retains him for an extra year. He dreams of his betrothed and his beloved home estate, upon his return though he find his home in ruins and his betrothed the Toast of London, who in fact does not seem to ‘want’ him anymore, reason being some of the rumours spreading about him while he was away have put him in disdain with the people of Sussex. Rossiter soon finds himself, his friend James Morris, and the reluctant, cynical August Falcon immersed in a vicious conspiracy against his family and so the struggle to get to the bottom of this merciless scheme is on.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Patricia Veryan has a true talent for writing that I’ve scarce seen before. Veryan has a way to make the most lovable characters come to life so by the end of the book you feel like old friends. Her books always have a awesome riddle and amazing battle scenes.  Though her books are called romances they truly are more of an epic adventure full of action and drama. Even if you aren't a big reader of Georgian books like Georgette Heyer's, which I confess I am not, these are a whole new world of Georgian England that will soon capture your heart as it has done mine. My one regret is the covers of the books tend to put people off them, they are tacky and cheap, (Though you can get the hardcover ones which don't have as bad a cover) but they only seem to mask the true beauty of these tales. But if you’re a reader, you’ll know the saying ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover.’ I highly recommend this book and as a Christian found no real fault with this ‘romance’.
